Body Bronzing by Becca Launches Campaign to Fund Shade System at Lake Mayer in Honor of Melanoma Awareness Month

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Body Bronzing by Becca, a locally owned and operated sunless tanning boutique offering a safe and healthy alternative to traditional tanning methods, recently launched its second annual fundraiser campaign in honor of Melanoma Awareness Month, held each year in May. This year, Body Bronzing is working to raise money to purchase a unique shade structure from Shade Systems, Inc. and Hasley Recreation for the outdoor playground at Lake Mayer Community Park.

“Summer days are coming, which means 90+ temperatures in Savannah,” said Rebecca Warnock, owner of Body Bronzing by Becca. “Summer in Savannah can be felt almost all-year long and finding activities to keep kids moving can be difficult in elevated temps.”

“With so many of our playgrounds located in direct sunlight without any protection from harmful UV rays, we want to help reduce sun exposure not only for the kids, but also for the parents and guardians at the park as well. Ultimately, this fundraising campaign connects back to our mission to provide a healthier outdoor experience.”

To help support its fundraising efforts, Body Bronzing is selling raffle tickets ($40 per ticket) for its “Big Hat Raffle”. Participants will have a chance to win an exciting selection of prizes with all proceeds going towards the purchase and installation of the shade structure at Lake Mayer. Prize highlights include:

  • Full body contour session at Body Bronzing by Becca
  • Special gift box from Little Barn Apothecary and Hustle and Blow Dry Bar

  • Makeover or education session by Sol Beauty

  • Refreshing eye treatment by Uplifting Facial and more!

“According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, 23 percent of average lifetime UV exposure happens before the age of 18,” said Warnock. “The more exposure early in life, the higher potential for skin damage and even cancer later on. We can all help reduce the chance of skin cancer and this is a great way to do it.”

Chatham County Parks and Recreation department has generously agreed to install the shade structure.

Tickets may be purchased online at or in person at 7370 Hodgson Memorial Dr. (Bldg. E1). For more information about Body Bronzing by Becca, please call 912.356.9229 or email
